Deadline extended for 2018 MENA Green Building Awards

Tuesday 30th January 2018

Emirates Green Building Council, an established member of WorldGBC, has extended the deadline for submissions for its annual MENA Green Building Awards 2018 until Thursday 15 February 2018.

The awards, endorsed by WorldGBC and held in partnership with six MENA Green Building Councils, recognise excellence in sustainability from organisations operating in the MENA region, including public and private sector enterprises, associations, consultants and practitioners.

Over the years, the awards have drawn strong participation from the construction industry value chain from across the region, to become one of the largest gatherings of professionals and researchers focused on promoting sustainable built environments. The increased interest has prompted the organising committee to include an additional four professional categories to cater to more specific design and building elements.

The 19 professional award categories for the MENA Green Building Awards 2018 are:

  • Green Building of the Year in six sub-categories:
    • Commercial
    • Hotel
    • School
    • Residential
    • Public Building
    • Healthcare Building
  • Sustainable Building Design of the Year
  • Sustainable Urban Development Design of the Year
  • Sustainable Community Development Design of the Year
  • Facility Management Organisation of the Year
  • Contractor of the Year
  • Developer of the Year
  • Green Building Material: Energy Management, Indoor Air Quality, Conventional Construction Materials & Water Management
  • Green Building Product: Energy Management, Indoor Air Quality, Conventional Construction Materials & Water Management
  • Green Building Research Award
  • Retrofit Project of the Year
  • Best Operations & Maintenance (existing buildings)
  • Best Maintenance (existing buildings)
  • Training Initiative of the Year

Saeed Al Abbar, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “Recognising organisations in the region for their innovative and outstanding sustainable building principles and practices is extremely important to sustain the momentum as well as inspire their innovations for a greener future.”

Majid Al Futtaim, a WorldGBC Corporate Advisory Board member and MENA Regional Partner, was among last year’s winners, winning the awards for the Green Building of the Year in the Hotel subcategory for Dubai’s Hilton Garden Inn, Mall of the Emirates, and the coveted Developer of the Year Award.

The deadline for submissions to the MENA Green Building Awards is 15 February 2018, midnight (UAE time) and the short-listed applicants will be notified on 19 April 2018. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner and awards ceremony to be held at Roda Al Murooj Downtown Dubai, on 9 May 2018.
