Graduated from the Sciences Faculty of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), as a biologist, Alejandra has a Master of Science from the National Polytechnic Institute. She also has it´s LEED AP credential with specialty in Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance (EBOM) and also Certified as TRUE Advisor. She worked in the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), an agency of the Federal Government, as the head of the Sustainable Management Program, where she managed to locate this Ministry and Mexico, as the first level in Latin America on sustainable Public Procurement. Later, she became the Project Manager or the Convention Center of the World Trade Center, México City; where she created and developed an Environmental Management System. Under her leadership and direction, this Convention Center has awarded the LEED Certification for Existing Buildings achieving Gold Level, as well as a the ESR (Socially Responsible Company) Certification in three consecutive terms.
Alejandra Cabrera is the founding CEO for Sustentabilidad para México, A.C. - SUMe, the green building council for Mexico, since 2013. Under her leadership, SUMe has grown from an emerging council and volunteer collective, to an established council that has been a key player both for Mexico and Latin America. She has grown the SUMe annual membership meeting to a fully fledge conference, and in 2018 co-host the first Greenbuild Mexico conference. Thanks to her strategic planning, Mexico is the leading market for LEED v4, for IFC’s EDGE program, and in the number of building owners and operators using the Arc platform to measure and mange building performance. Also, Alejandra has been able to identify strategic alliances with National and International key players, such as World Resources Institute, P4G and different governmental offices, leading the way for the Cities Climate Action Project supported by the BEA, in different States of Mexico. She has been part of the Steering Committee of the Americas Regional Network (ARN) of the WorldGBC, since 2016 and since 2019 she´s was elected as the President of the Board.
