1. Commit

Commit to net zero operational emissions for all buildings under direct control (as owner and tenant) and commit to quantify, reduce and compensate (all residual upfront embodied carbon) embodied emissions from major renovations and new developments by 2030.

2. Disclose

Measure and publicly disclose scope 1 and 2 emissions for all buildings under operational control globally and whole life carbon emissions for new developments and major renovations, according to EN 15978 or other accepted national standard, including upfront embodied carbon data.

3. Act

Continue to implement a decarbonisation plan that incorporates energy efficiency measures, on-site renewable infrastructure and procurement of renewable energy for buildings and industrial processes. Maximise embodied carbon emissions reductions for any new developments or major renovations under direct control through carrying out appropriate lifecycle assessments and relevant interventions, compensating for any residual upfront emissions.

4. Verify

Verify energy consumption and whole life carbon emissions data via an independent third-party verification process. Continue existing stringent internal reporting process and undertake relevant reporting in line with Commitment requirements.

5. Advocate

Continue to act as a strong advocate for building energy efficiency, climate action and industry transformation via its own commitments and membership of advocacy groups. Schneider Electric will continue to advance industry transformation towards and uptake of net zero through their business activities. This includes helping clients to decarbonise through driving digital transformation by integrating world-leading process and energy technologies to realise the full efficiency and sustainability opportunities for businesses.

NZCB Commitment & The Climate Pledge: Accelerating Decarbonisation

A key component of urban decarbonisation.

IntenCity is Schneider Electric’s new flagship building located in the Scientific Polygon (Presqu’île) of Grenoble, France. It is a building of 26,000 m2, part of a vast project of reorganising Schneider Electric’s facilities in the city of Grenoble which began in 2016. It’s objective: to regroup around 5,000 workers spread out over 13 different sites into 4 major buildings.

A practical use case towards Net Zero buildings.

IntenCity is a highly decarbonised building, whose implemented solutions allow a positive trajectory towards Net-Zero carbon in operation, as the cumulative carbon footprint is five times less than an average European building on a 60-year life cycle, with less than 5% of its total cumulative carbon emissions coming from operations.

This result comes from the combined implementation of active energy efficiency (enabled by digital controls), smart electrification of heating, and onsite solar (and storage).

The bundling of technologies magnifies the benefits as the access to near-zero marginal-cost electricity from onsite solar completely changes the paradigm of heat electrification, while offering to onsite solar the opportunity to maximise self-consumption, as the digital controls are optimising the use of onsite solar and improve the efficiency in heating use (through smarter controls).

Additionally to cutting operational emissions, we have a second string to our bow with an intensive focus on the embodied carbon emissions during the use phase. We leverage the power of advanced analytics to optimise the maintenance through predictability with a specific attention to the reparability of active equipment.

Our participation in WorldGBC’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment provides a focus to accelerate building decarbonisation action by 2030, which in turn contributes to Schneider Electric’s participation in The Climate Pledge, SBTi and wider net zero goals.
