SUMMARY:Keeping on track: Transforming the built environment to meet the SDGs
DESCRIPTION:Register here. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a webinar co hosted by World Green Building Council and the Global Building Network\, to explore the local action being taken around the world to decarbonise the built environment\, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, to create a sustainable future for everyone\, everywhere. \n\n\n\nWe have reached a critical timeline. The United Nations (UN) progress report on tracking SDGs set for 2030 has shown that the current actions required to decarbonise the built environment are insufficient to meet the targets – with more than 50% of SDGs being moderately\, or severely\, off-track. That’s why the UN has called on countries to unite at the Summit of the Future (22–23 September 2024) to develop “a rescue plan for people and planet.” \n\n\n\nWith discussion led by a range of expert speakers\, our webinar will demonstrate how the global building and construction sector can be re-imagined in order to meet the SDGs and stay on track to keep the 1.5°C Paris Agreement goal alive.  \n\n\n\nThe sector currently has a widening decarbonisation gap due to the increase in carbon-intensive building construction activities. Exacerbating the gap is vulnerability\, and lack of resilience in developing regions such as Asia and Africa\, to growing heat\, flooding\, and other associated climate and health-related stresses. To meet these challenges and secure a future where no one is left behind\, we must drive innovation\, action\, policy change and break down barriers across a sector which is a key protagonist in the solution. You can register here. \n\n\n\nAbout Global Building Network \n\n\n\nThe Global Building Network facilitates research\, education\, and evidence to action through global partnerships and network-to-network connections to accelerate decarbonization of the built environment at scale. This initiative was established in 2018 as a formal partnership between the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and Penn State as a pillar of the UNECE High Performance Buildings Initiative to coordinate the development of a global research\, education\, and outreach consortium on high-performance buildings. Today the Global Building Network comprises 40+ global partnerships and network-to-network connections. Initiatives and programs of the Global Building Network align with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

SUMMARY:RICS World Built Environment Forum Week
DESCRIPTION:Decarbonising the sector and improving impacts on cities\, climate\, and overall biodiversity will transform every aspect of business\, investment\, work and life. Yet amid economic uncertainty and worsening affordability crises\, achieving this change at pace requires workable\, investable\, and business-compatible solutions. \n\n\n\nOver four days\, participants will build a picture of how standards\, policy\, investment\, data and technology are changing the landscape across energy\, infrastructure\, and the land and building life cycle. To conclude\, WBEF Week 2024 will outline a practical approach to mobilising public and investor trust in new and emerging solutions.
