Name: Mary Takawi What you're doing: I'm an Architect advocating for changing the way we design and build. I believe the architecture industry has been advancing, yet losing its way. As of the impact that we 'human beings' are suffering from right now. On the psychological level; those grey boxes we keep stacking, are not doing us any good, while we can actually look at the missing factor/element of emotion, we can design for the human wellbeing. Same on the environmental level, I believe that changing the way we build won't just help with the impacts of climate change, we are a part of the environment and it is all connected, green buildings, in my belief would help from the environmental and climate change aspect as well as the human wellbeing aspect. We have got a lot to change while we can.

One of society’s great challenges of the next three decades will be to balance the need for low-carbon urban construction with the need to conserve and restore thriving forests. Canada will find itself in the centre of this global crucible, called upon to provide “wood to the world” so that expanding cities avoid the worst climate impacts of building with concrete and steel. This event invites all who are invested in the future of forests and the built environment to anticipate, discuss, and find ways to resolve this quandary. The event will take place over two half days, September 14–15, 2022, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET each day. Event: World Green Building Week: A Building for Everyone Date: September 14, 2022 Time: 11:00am Address: Online - Zoom URL: https://www.sustainabilitypartnerships.uk/events/worldgreenbuildingweek Details: The global built environment is responsible for almost 40% of global energy-related carbon emissions and 50% of extracted materials. By 2050, 1.6 billion urban dwellers will be regularly exposed to extremely high temperatures, which cause droughts and wildfire, and over 800 million people living in more than 570 cities will be vulnerable to sea level rise and coastal flooding. A large number of our hospitals and health care facilities within the UK were established long ago, prior to World War II when sustainability was not a consideration within planning and construction. Because of the historic infrastructure and structures, many of our current healthcare institutions are now facing challenges in fulfilling their sustainability objectives. As part of World Green Building Week, we will be inviting a panel of industry experts to come and discuss new products and processes available to aid the NHS to build a greener environment for the future. It’s time to put people back at the heart of the built environment and ensure we’re #BuildingForEveryone. Speaker Announcements Coming Soon! Organisation: Sustainability Partnerships
