ICLEI Europe Joins Green Building Leadership Awards

Wednesday 22nd April 2015

WorldGBC is delighted to announce ICLEI Europe as the newest knowledge partner to its 2015 Europe Leadership in Green Building Awards.

The new partnership extends ICLEI's partnership with WorldGBC's global Government Leadership Awards to the regional level, and ICLEI now joins the Architects Council of Europe, European Council of Engineers Chambers, and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors on the awards panel.

ICLEI is a network of 12 mega-cities, 100 super-cities and urban regions, 450 large cities, and 450 small and medium-sized cities and towns in 84 countries. The organisation facilitates local government input to United Nations processes such as the UN Framework Conventions on Climate Change, and Biodiversity, alongside many other activities.

The Network's Europe Leadership Awards are now open, covering awards for leadership in building design, business leadership, and excellence in city policy. The award winners will be announced at Greenbuild EuroMed in Verona on 14 to 16 October 2015.

“Cities and Green Building Councils are natural partners in the mission to ensure that all citizens can enjoy a sustainable built environment” said Dr Christine Lemaitre, Chairman of WorldGBC’s Europe Regional Network. “ICLEI will help us ensure that the most innovative city policies out there are being held us as examples for others to follow.”

ICLEI’s Regional Director Wolfgang Teubner added “I am delighted that ICLEI Europe is joining the jury panel for the Europe Leadership in Green Building Awards. With cities set to expand as the urban population rises, promoting sustainability in the construction sector is an increasingly pressing topic. Through rewarding and highlighting cities and organisations that have shown leadership in implementing green building policies, we can inspire others to do the same, creating a more resilient and sustainable Europe.”

Introducing our Network

Green Building Councils are not-for-profit, member-based organisations that are driving the transformation of buildings, communities and users’ behaviour towards sustainability. The World Green Building Council is a coalition of over 100 national Green Building Councils and 27,000 members around the world, making it the largest international organisation influencing the green building marketplace. Our Europe Regional Network consists of over 30 national Green Building Councils and works in collaboration with more than 5,000 member companies across Europe, which represent the full breadth of stakeholders in the buildings industry. A crucial part of green building is bringing the whole value chain in our industry together to provide better solutions, and this is exactly what we are doing through our members.
