New GBC Launches in Tanzania

A new GBC was launched recently with the establishment of the Green Building Council of Tanzania (GBCTZ). The launch took place during a stakeholder meeting which was held at the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel on 31 January 2014.

Green building initiatives at individual and company level have been in the country for quite some time and some buildings have been constructed using green building technologies. In the absence of a GBC in the country, the buildings were certified by foreign green building councils. The stakeholders meeting was attended by 65 key stakeholders in the building sector from professional associations and regulatory bodies, estate developers, building materials suppliers, financial institutions, social security funds and higher institutions of learning. At the stakeholders’ meeting, 47 delegates from 35 organizations resolved and declared to establish the Green Building Council of Tanzania and signed a declaration to become Founder Members of the GBCTZ. Since then, the number of members has been growing.

We welcome the Green Building Council of Tanzania and look forward to seeing the work the council will do to transform the construction industry in Tanzania.
