Friday 24th October 2014

World Green Building Week Hungary in Review:

A one-week series of open days showcasing the most outstanding examples of green building in Hungary, an international conference and an expert member workshop:

World Green Building Week was celebrated by a bunch of events in Hungary. Green Walk 2014, a series of open days showcasing the best examples of green building in Hungary, organised already the second time between the 22nd and 27th of September 2014, proved again to be a huge success with more than 700 registrations!

During the tours led by professionals, 19 buildings or sites could be visited. From a sustainably built football arena to green office buildings in downtown Budapest, from living machine water treatment systems to an autonomous straw-bale family house, a wide spectrum of green buildings opened their gates to the wider audience. Professionals and members of the wider public could visit locations, many of which are otherwise closed to the wider public

This year a photo contest was held for the participants of Green Walk 2014 - the contest is still open, but already more than 150 glorious photos were sent in by the contestants! A jury will select the best of the best pictures:

The 5-member body consists of Vice-President of HuGBC Gábor Radványi, Member of Board of Directors of HuGBC Éva Beleznay, Viktória Doró, Editor in Chief of Recity Magazine, and Tibor Zsitva and Attila Gulyás photographer artists

Results of the contest will be announced on the 3rd of November on Green Talk XXL conference!

On the 24th of September a one-day break was held in Green Walk, just to be filled out by  Build2Gether Green Retrofit conference, an international one-day conference focusing on the topic of sustainable building renovation. The event, held in one of the most glorious examples of this main theme, Eiffel Palace, hosted experts of GBC’s of the neighbouring countries, e.g. James Drinkwater, Senior Policy Advisor of ERN of WorldGBC. The professionals, together with renowned Hungarian specialists of green building, discussed the topic of sustainability and sustainable renovation of buildings, and shared their experiences about the operation of GBC organisations. The event was held in a superb atmosphere, and  was closed by a building tour, led by Mr. Zsolt Gyöngyösi, Member of BOD of HuGBC

On the next day, Green Walk continued, and also a member workshop on the ‘EU’ Framework for Building Assessment was held:

The instructor of the workshop was James Drinkwater, Senior Policy Advisor of ERN of WorldGBC. The aim of the event was to collect national expert views on the design of important new EU sustainable building policy.
