WorldGBC announced as New European Bauhaus partner

The World Green Building Council has been named by the European Commission’s New European Bauhaus as a project partner.

WorldGBC joins a select group of leading organisations, networks and associations who have committed to support and amplify the objectives of the New European Bauhaus (NEB).

The NEB project forms part of the EU’s €750 billion COVID-19 recovery plan, and was announced by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen in October 2020. The project will implement circular economy principles and lifecycle thinking in a quest for a more sustainable, aesthetically pleasing and inclusive built environment. The current design phase will lead to the funding of five pilot projects later in 2021.

As a project partner, WorldGBC will help the Commission identify potential projects and concepts for NEB funding. With over 20 national member Green Building Councils (GBCs), WorldGBC connects almost 5000 member companies and organisations across Europe. As the global voice for a sustainable built environment, WorldGBC can offer the NEB a unique platform to amplify the message of the movement.

Many of the groundbreaking projects that WorldGBC and European GBCs are leading are already well aligned with the aims of the NEB. This includes BUILD UPON2‘s focus on measuring the social and wellbeing benefits of renovation, WorldGBC’s pioneering Health and Wellbeing Framework, which emphasises the importance of a holistic vision of healthy and equitable buildings in harmony with nature, as well as the #BuildingLife Campaign to tackle the full lifecycle impacts of the built environment.

WorldGBC’s NEB-related activities will begin in Q3 2021 with a major European Summit taking place during World Green Building Week – more information on this and other events will be announced on the WorldGBC website and on Twitter @WorldGBC_Europe in due course.
