Dario Ibargüengoitia is an engineer by profession. He is currently the chairman of the board of IBALCA SA de CV, a consultancy company in sustainable building, energy efficiency and HVAC system design. IBALCA is one of the leading consultancies in Mexico that promotes the change towards a more sustainable and efficient building, promoting LEED, WELL, Edge, BOMA Best, Fitwel and local certifications in Mexico, as well as Building Life Cycle Assessment, materials and EPD – Environmental Product Declarations in Mexico.
Dario was president of the ASHRAE Mexico City Chapter in 2018-2019, to promote education towards energy efficiency and adequate Indoor Environmental Quality, as well as a close collaboration with SUMe to create the culture of Green Buildings and the Energy Efficiency with the federal Government.
From 2011 to 2015, Dario was the founding president of Sustentabilidad para Mexico – SUMe which is the Green Building Council in Mexico, where he carried out coordinated work with WorldGBC to help SUMe become an Established Green Building Council, the highest tier of WorldGBC membership.
He collaborates with the National Organization for Standardization and Certification in Construction and Building – ONNCCE in the development of public policies and Mexican standards to establish the minimum requirements of Indoor Environmental Quality, Commissioning Process and energy efficiency in Mexico.
Dario is also dedicated to academia and through his teaching in Mexico and in countries in Central and South America he promotes the culture of sustainability and green buildings.
Dario Ibarguengoitia joined the WorldGBC Board of Directors in 2019 and he has been nominated by Sustentabilidad para México – SUMe. He has been the WorldGBC Board Treasurer since July 2020.
