1. Commit

Vicinity is committed to achieving net zero operational carbon (scope 1& Socpe 2) by 2030, for buildings under its direct operational control, and designing and building assets that embody sustainable designing principles, maximising embodied carbon reduction for new developments and major renovations of existing assets, as well as compensating for any remaining residual carbon emissions, by 2030. Furthermore, Vicinity commits to be Net Zero across its value chain by 2040.

2. Disclose

Vicinity discloses energy consumption and Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions through its annual sustainability disclosures, aligned with GRI Standards and the GHG Protocol. Vicinity also voluntarily reports the data through sustainability benchmarks including GRESB, DJSI, and Green Star.

Vicinity will commence measuring and disclosing whole-life embodied carbon emissions for new developments and major renovations in the near future.

3. Act

Vicinity will implement its Decarbonisation Roadmap, including initiatives to achieve ambitious energy efficiency targets; the development and implantation of an electrification roadmap for existing and new assets; the development and implementing of an embodied carbon roadmap for new developments and major refurbishments; as well as increased on-site renewable energy generation, and offsetting residual emissions with credible carbon offsets.

4. Verify

Vicinity’s sustainability data and performance is verified through third-party certification including NABERS and Green Star, and independent third-party assurance.

5. Advocate

Vicinity will continue to advocate for wider emissions reductions through their membership capacity at the GBCA and other peak industry bodies, as well as direct engagement with tenants, peers, investors, and other stakeholders to accelerate the transition to a net zero carbon economy. Furthermore, Vicinity commits to be Net Zero across its value chain by 2040.
