John Mandyck, Chief Sustainability Officer, UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corporation has been named chair of the World Green Building Council Corporate Advisory Board, further expanding the organisation’s commitment to the green building movement around the globe.

The largest international organisation influencing the green building marketplace, the World Green Building Council is a coalition of more than 90 national green building councils that works to facilitate the global transformation of the building industry through market-driven mechanisms. Leading the Corporate Advisory Board, Mandyck will serve as a global champion for the green building movement, providing insight on market trends and partnering with the organisation’s Board of Directors to set an ambitious agenda to maximize the value of the global network of green building councils.

“As governments struggle to get traction on issues vital to our economic and environmental future, business is filling the leadership void,” said Jane Henley, CEO, World Green Building Council. “Under John’s leadership, the Corporate Advisory Board will identify ways to unlock the potential of green building as the most effective way to future proof our investment in cities and communities. At the same time, we are creating healthier places for people, while working within our increasingly resource constrained world.”

During past ten years, the World Green Building Council has built a global network of 25,000 companies in more than 90 countries, with a mission to improve the way the built environment is designed, constructed and used by people every day.

“Our research shows that global green building activity has been doubling every three years thanks in great part to the tremendous work by green building councils around the world,” said Mandyck. “This confirms that the green building movement has shifted from ‘push’ to ‘pull’—with markets increasingly demanding no less than green buildings. United Technologies is pleased to increase its work with the World Green Building Council to accelerate the adoption of green buildings to lower building costs while conserving the earth’s precious resources.”

Carrier, part of United Technologies, was the first company to join the US Green Building Council in 1993.  Carrier is also a founding member of the US, Argentina, China, India, Singapore and France Green Building Councils. In addition to his new role with the World Green Building Council, Mandyck serves as co-vice chairman of the Board of Directors for Urban Green Council, the US Green Building Council’s New York City Chapter, serves on the Center for Green Schools Advisory Board, and is an official advisor to China’s Green Building Council.
