Explore the proposals of the newly launched EU Taxonomy Consultation

The EU Platform on Sustainable Finance is currently consulting on new proposals, launched on 4 August 2021, for the Taxonomy criteria for the built environment, in the key areas of circular economy and biodiversity. Join us to hear first-hand how these proposals have been shaped and have your say on the next steps during World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) interactive #BuildingLife webinar on 9 September, jointly hosted with FIEC, the European Construction Industry Federation.

During the live Q&A session with members of the Platform Technical Working Group, attendees will be able to learn about the proposals and share their views on how they could be strengthened to ensure that Taxonomy-aligned activities in the built environment are making a substantial contribution to the environmental objectives.

Our expert panel of speakers will include Sue Arundale, Director, Technical and Environmental Affairs at FIEC as moderator, and Professor Marzia Traverso, Rapporteur form the Platform’s Technical Working group and Head of the Institute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen, Pekka Vuorinen, FIEC’s Permanent Member of the Platform on Sustainable Finance and Director, Environment & Energy at Finnish Association of Construction Product industries and Stephen Richardson, WorldGBC’s Permanent Member of the Platform on Sustainable Finance and Director, Europe Regional Network.

Register your place for free and join us on 9 September 2021, 9.30am – 10.30am (GMT).

Stephen Richardson, Director of Europe Regional Network, WorldGBC:

“The proposals of the EU Platform on Sustainable Finance are laying a crucial foundation; they are setting clear targets to support the financial sector in contributing to environmental objectives through Taxonomy based activities. These targets will be critical in taking the sector forward in sustainability.

“At our webinar, we will take a deep dive into these proposals and open the floor to views and questions on what these proposals mean across the value chain for this sector.”

About #BuildingLife

#BuildingLife is a multi-year campaign led by World Green Building Council Europe (WorldGBC Europe) that will help to ensure Europe’s built environment sector delivers on the ambition of the EU Green Deal.

By building mainstream political and private sector support, the #BuildingLife campaign will catalyse a shift in Europe’s building policy so that it tackles the total environmental impacts — both carbon and resource-related — across the entire lifecycle of a building.

Buildings are responsible for around 40% of energy consumption, 36% of CO2 emissions, 50% of all extracted material and 35% of the EU’s total waste generation. A climate neutral Europe cannot be achieved unless we address these emissions and environmental impacts.

#BuildingLife represents an opportunity to realise the potential of our sector in transforming Europe, something particularly relevant in light of Covid-19. In fact, the dual climate and health crisis makes this even more urgent and provides an opportunity for us to #BuildBackBetter.
