Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company, a Godrej Group Company has joined the World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) Asia Pacific Regional Network as a Corporate Activity Partner to advance the dialogue on accelerating uptake of net zero carbon buildings in the Asia Pacific region.
Activities in WorldGBC’s Regional Networks are sometimes funded by Activity Sponsors – leading multinationals who are typically members of national GBCs and want to contribute to advancing a particular activity or area of work at the regional level.
The first company to be recognised as a WorldGBC Corporate Activity Partner in Asia Pacific, Godrej & Boyce will be participating in the following WorldGBC activity: The Asia Pacific Dialogue on Advancing Net Zero.
Launched in June 2016, Advancing Net Zero is WorldGBC’s global project aims to promote and support the acceleration of net zero carbon buildings to 100% by 2050. Currently, there are 17 GBCs participating in the project, that includes both certification development but also driving industry commitment to, and delivery on, net zero carbon building through the WorldGBC Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment. India Green Building Council was one of the first councils globally to sign up for the project and have launched their net zero certification during India Green Building Council’s Green Building Congress in Hyderabad this week.
In 2017/2018, WorldGBC saw an increase of interest in WorldGBC’s Advancing Net Zero project across Asia Pacific, which has led to the formation of the Asia Pacific Dialogue on Net Zero.
With 60 percent of the world’s population (4.3 billion people) already living in the Asia Pacific region, and with more than 2 billion living in urban areas, the region has 16 of the world’s 28 megacities. The urban population is expected to reach 3.3 billion by 2050, in turn, creating further demand for buildings that are sustainable and resilient to the increasing impacts of climate change.

The partnership was announced officially during a signing ceremony attended by Lisa Bate, Chair, World Green Building Council and George Menezes, COO, Godrej Electrical and Electronics Division during India Green Building Council’s Green Building Congress in Hyderabad, India on 1 November 2018.
