Google joins global industry leaders to serve on the World Green Building Council’s Corporate Advisory Board

American multinational technology company Google has joined the World Green Building Council’s (WorldGBC) Corporate Advisory Board, a select group of companies which are global leaders on sustainability, and which serve to guide WorldGBC on its strategy and activities.

Google has a longstanding commitment to climate action and environmental stewardship. In 2018, Google achieved twelve consecutive years of carbon neutrality and, for the second year in a row, matched 100% of the electricity consumption of its global operations with renewable energy. Last year Google also announced a long-term goal to power its operations fully with carbon-free energy.

Google is now focusing its efforts on accelerating the transition toward carbon-free energy and a circular economy, empowering everyone with technology that enables sustainable action, and benefitting the communities where it operates.

In September 2019, Google was one of over 80 organisations to officially endorse the vision and ambition of WorldGBC’s Bringing Embodied Carbon Upfront report, recognising the need for coordinated action across the whole value chain to achieve fully decarbonised buildings and infrastructure by 2050.

Cristina Gamboa, CEO, World Green Building Council said: “WorldGBC is delighted to welcome Google to serve on its Corporate Advisory Board. Our partnership with Google will support our global network’s commitment to accelerating the transition to a sustainable and carbon free built environment. Their leadership in delivering technology solutions and their exemplary record in operational efficiencies and clean, zero carbon energy will continue to inspire many other businesses to take action now.”

Lynn N. Simon, FAIA, LEED FellowHead of REWS Sustainability, Google said: “Google is honoured to serve on the World Green Building Council’s Corporate Advisory Board. At Google, we build sustainability into everything we do by focusing on healthy workplaces, circularity, and climate resilience in our built environment. We are excited by the opportunity to have an even greater impact by collaborating with WorldGBC and its corporate partners.”
