MIPIM’s Road to Zero: The BuildingToCOP Coalition engages with the real estate industry on raising ambition of business, cities and government to achieve a net zero built environment.

In a clear sign of progress in the real estate industry and its efforts toward a net zero built environment, MIPIM, the world’s largest international real estate event, will include for the first time the Road to Zero area and stage. The 400m2 zone will combine exhibition, networking and conference space with a focus on practical methods to decarbonise the real estate industry. The BuildingToCOP Coalition and its member organisations, collective commitments and solutions will be featured across the 3-day programme.  

Urban Land Institute (ULI) Europe, as content lead for the Road to Zero Stage, has been supported by BuildingToCOP Coalition members WorldGBC, WBCSD and IIGCC, bringing the latest thinking, perspectives and available solutions to the programme. 

The Coalition will be well represented on panels on the Road to Zero stage including sessions focused on Accelerating the progress to a net zero carbon future and Building investment leadership for change. Beyond the Road to Zero stage, Coalition members GlobalABC and WBCSD will join the International cooperation for sustainable buildings panel to discuss the Coalition-supported Buildings Breakthrough and how deeper international collaboration is needed to achieve transformational change in the sector.

Carrying a common message throughout the event, coalition members, wider organisations and partners working to accelerate change in the built environment, will be active across many stages and events, to reach as wide an audience as possible.

With less than 2% of 2022 attendees participating in the Race to Zero, this serves as a significant opportunity to raise awareness, engage stakeholders and encourage participation in the Race.

The built environment accounts for nearly 40% of emissions.
