#RaceToZero highlights unique position of the construction industry to drive net zero breakthrough

The Race to Zero is the UNFCCC’s global campaign, rallying leadership across all sectors to support a zero carbon recovery, as well as building momentum to a decarbonised economy ahead of COP26.

In the latest video instalment featuring Climate Champions such as Nigel Topping, High Level Climate Action Champion for UN climate talks, COP26, there is a clear call to construction companies to showcase action and drive ambition to bring together other stakeholders from across the value chain.

The built environment is responsible for approximately 40% of global carbon emissions and 50% of the world’s resource consumption. The World Green Building Council, as representatives of a global-action network advocating for sustainable buildings, is therefore encouraging all stakeholders from the built environment to join the Race to Zero and show both support and commitment to a sustainable, net zero economy.

Cristina Gamboa, CEO of World Green Building Council:

“Now is the moment to switch from rhetoric to global action, or risk being left behind. We are a proud campaigner of the #RaceToZero and 2021 is the year of #COP26, bringing an unprecedented opportunity for the construction sector to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. We must all work together to win the Race to Zero.”
