Ukrainian GBC joins global green leaders in driving change

Tuesday 23 April 2024

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) is proud to announce that Ukrainian Green Building Council (UGBC) has joined our global network of over 75 Green Building Councils (GBCs) as a Prospective member.

Ukrainian Green Building Council (UGBC) advocates for the decarbonisation of the built environment, on a local level and in line with global climate goals. Founded in 2023, the GBC connects with a range of stakeholders from building and construction professionals, to policy makers and academia, to support industry across Ukraine in bringing green building practices to the mainstream.

UGBC is now part of a community of over 20 GBCs and seven Regional Partners in the Europe Regional Network (ERN).

Cristina Gamboa, CEO, WorldGBC, said:

“We are honoured to welcome UGBC to the WorldGBC community.

“Ukraine is currently facing extreme challenges, which are known around the world. But it inspires me to know that despite operating against a backdrop of war and humanitarian crises, organisations such as UGBC are continuing to drive action for change.

“It’s not always easy to find hope when we’re working on such a wide reaching challenge as the climate crisis. But UGBC brings an important new voice to our network. We are privileged to be working with them and hopeful that our collaboration can strengthen climate action in the built environment.”

Maksym Kryvosheiev, UGBC leader, Ukrainian Green Building Council, said:

“I firmly believe that the future is not predestined, but rather shaped by the individual and collective actions we take, or choose not to take, today.”

“Our focus at UGBC is clear: raise awareness, embrace inclusivity, maintain integrity, innovate responsibly, and prioritise collaboration. These principles will guide our efforts as we work towards a sustainable future for Ukraine in the built environment.

“As we advance, UGBC is dedicated to nurturing professional potential by providing continuous growth opportunities, even during challenging times like wartime, and those professionals will be able to lead the sustainable reconstruction of Ukraine. We’re committed to supporting specialists and ensuring their development as we lead Ukraine’s green building movement.”
