WorldGBC and GeSI to Work Together to Combat Climate Change

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) are pleased to announce the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work together to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.

Between them, the two organisations represent the environmental interests of the building and construction sectors and the global information technology sector, and will work together to promote the integration of green building and ICT to enhance building energy efficiency, productivity, and health.

“The GeSI network brings together an impressive group of high tech companies dedicated to sustainability,” said Terri Wills, WorldGBC CEO. “We at WorldGBC are excited to work with these companies and with GeSI to advance green building through the use of ICT. Many GeSI members are large tenants as well, and we look forward to working with them through our global network of GBCs to advance the greening of their buildings.”

“The World Green Building Council has been a worldwide leader in sharing best practices and promoting innovation for the building and construction industry,” said Luis Neves, GeSI Chairman and Group Sustainability and Climate Change Officer for Deutsche Telekom.  “With this MOU, we bring together and strengthen cooperation between the global ICT and building sectors to address the environmental challenges of our time.”

The two organisations will share information and identify joint opportunities to work together to address climate change, creating a powerful private sector voice on the issue.  Both organisations will be participating in the private sector portion of UNFCCC COP21 climate change conference in Paris in December 2015. This cross-sector cooperation will provide policy makers with insight and information about potential advances that could be made, leveraging the latest technology and design thinking.
