1. Commit

Commit to all Deerns occupied offices operating at net zero carbon by 2025. Maximise embodied carbon reductions and compensate for any residual upfront emissions for any new developments or major renovations under direct control by 2030 when appropriate.

2. Disclose

Measure and publicly disclose annual calculation of carbon footprint, considering Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions; calculate the progress towards targets referencing previous years’ results.

3. Act

Set a decarbonisation plan aiming to minimise energy consumption, to transition to green / renewable energy supply and to offset remaining emissions from energy and refrigerants, bringing them to net zero operating emissions, while removing fossil fuel use as fast as practicable (where applicable). Maximise embodied carbon emission reductions for any new developments or major renovations of existing assets by carrying out Life Cycle Assessments and utilising low carbon design, materials and construction processes. Develop yearly measurements of progress towards targets, and recommendation of improvements.

4. Verify

Deerns ISO 14001 certified offices have their carbon footprint verified via third party audits. Engage stakeholders for offset and verification of results.

5. Advocate

Commit to educate and influence industry to make net zero carbon mainstream. Support market transformation with awareness raising and knowledge sharing. Deliver future-ready, carbon neutral designs which enable a vital transition into a healthy, resource efficient and resilient society. Develop policy and plans to reduce waste and transport-related carbon footprint (mobility plans and electrical vehicle fleet). Calculate avoided emissions from nZEB projects developed each year. Advocate for whole life carbon strategies consideration through positive impact services that support building owners with their assets’ decarbonisation. #BuildingLife Ambassador.
