1. Commit

Commit to continuing to operate London studio at net zero carbon (scope 1 and 2) and transition Hong Kong and Sydney studios to net zero operational carbon by 2023. Commit to achieving maximum reductions in embodied carbon, compensating for any residual upfront embodied emissions for new and renovated assets under direct control by 2030.

2. Disclose

Measure and publicly disclose annual energy consumption, scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions and whole life carbon emissions where applicable on the company website.

3. Act

Implement a decarbonisation strategy to improve energy efficiency, secure renewable energy and reduce overall emissions of occupied assets. Compensate for any remaining residual operational and upfront embodied emissions, through the planting of woodland and contributing to a certified reforestation scheme.

4. Verify

Verify energy consumption and whole life carbon emissions by a third party and as part of ISO 14001 auditing process.

5. Advocate

Advocate for industry transformation by providing clients with clear guidance on design stage best practice, encouraging them to assess, evaluate, disclose, and offset associated whole life carbon emissions. Make is also a signatory to UN Race to Zero and UK Architects Declare. Their in-house sustainability taskforce, Make Neutral, is delivering their net zero carbon vision for projects and practice, whilst Make’s think tank, Future Spaces Foundation, contributes to industry change.

Make is committed to reducing, disclosing and offsetting all scope 3 emissions by 2030.
