Luis Alejandro is the Head of Green Financial Markets at IDB Invest, where he leads the Sustainable Finance advisory practice for investment funds, financial institutions and capital markets for Latin America and the Caribbean in the Climate and Environment Division.
Luis Alejandro has been a pioneer in sustainable development, sustainable finance and carbon market arenas. He structured many first of its kind thematic and high impact financial instruments in markets of Latin America and the Caribbean such as: a) first sustainable bonds issued by the banking industry in Uruguay, Central America, Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala and in El Salvador, b) the first Sustainability Linked Bond issued by a private Bank in Latin America, c) Blue Bonds by private Banking industry in the Americas, and d) the first worldwide transaction of carbon credits from forestry investments issued in the NYSE Blue in 2010.
Before joining the IDB group, sixteen years ago, he successfully developed the first green financing lines for renewable energy, sustainable transport, and agroforestry sectors when working at the private banking industry, he received the beyondBanking award as an acknowledgment for those innovations in 2011. Once in the IDB Group he also was awarded two times with the IDB Group “Diversity Award” for novel transactions he led on gender economic empowerment and the first resilient territorial model for indigenous people’s economic empowerment.
