Event: National Green Expo 2022 Date: May 27, 2022 Time: 9:00am Address: #120/10, "Vidya Mandiraya", Vidya Mawatha, Colombo 07 URL: https://srilankagbc.org/events/national-green-expo-2022/ Details: National Green Expo 2022 – Trade Exhibition with Innovative Green Technology The “National Green Expo 2022” Green Building Council of Sri Lanka, being the pioneering organisation committed to promoting environmental sustainability in Sri Lanka has decided to conduct an Exhibition Centre of the BMICH on 27th, 28th and 29th of May 2022 with the aim of demonstrating the achievements of green technological innovations made so far by all sectors of the Sri Lankan economy such as agriculture, construction, manufacturing, infrastructure development, industries and the transport etc. to the general public. The other objective is to build awareness among the general public on the benefits of using the products that have been upgraded by integrating green technology. This will be a great opportunity for the public and corporate sector organizations to demonstrate their commitment for promoting green, while introducing their upgraded products and services to the public. This exhibition will be distinctive among all other similar events because of its unique theme “Empowering Innovations” and the tagline ‘Smart, Inventive and Proven Green Technologies for Sustainable Development’. This exhibition will be another progressive milestone of the ‘GREENING SRI LANKA 2021/30’ Campaign launched by the GBCSL as its roadmap for achieving environmental sustainability and sustainable development in Sri Lanka. The Green Building Councils in other countries in the Pacific Asia Region have agreed to collaborate with us in conducting this exhibition by providing technical and technological support and arranging leading industries in their countries to participate in this event as exhibitors. We are expecting the support and cooperation of the leading UN agencies operating in Sri Lanka for conducting this magnificent event. The world is changing. Expectations are getting higher. However, the Planet’s resources are fast depleting and we have to be smart and innovative to achieve high goals with very low resource consumption. In such a situation the Green Professionals act their part in balancing the three pillars of Sustainability; Environment, Social and Economy and the Green Technology to reach the masses and make them do things differently. Doing ‘business as usual’ will not leave a healthy planet for our children and grandchildren. We need ‘disruptive technologies’ that will revolutionize the day-to-day activities, such as mobile technology, nanotechnology, household solar PV technology and perhaps other inventions and breakthroughs to satisfy society’s expectations and still not be blamed by our future generations for not leaving them a livable Planet Earth. VGBC was established in 2007 in Vietnam with the aim of raising awareness and building capacity on green building development for Vietnam. VGBC was officially recognized by the Ministry of Construction of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in March 2009 and joined the establishment of the Asia-Pacific WGBC Network in September 2009. VGBC is an information bridge between design consultants looking to go green to designate projects and suppliers looking to inform designers about new products and technologies. To do that, VGBC is creating frequent meetings, seminars and forums where architects, investors, engineers and contractors are invited to share their ideas and views towards sustainable buildings and construction practices. Event: Life Cycle Exposure to Chemicals in Buildings - How Risky? Date: July 31, 2022 Time: 11:00am Address: https://www.gbca.org.au/education/videos/modules/192/life-cycle-exposure-to-chemicals-in-buildings-how-risky/ URL: https://www.gbca.org.au/education/videos/modules/192/life-cycle-exposure-to-chemicals-in-buildings-how-risky/ Details: The move towards more energy efficient and tighter buildings might lead to increased consumer exposure to the thousands in chemical embedded in building materials. This seminar will present new high throughput methods to characterize the population exposure to tens of thousands chemical-product combinations used in building materials and cleaning products, using method of lines and other modeling approaches. We demonstrate the application of these tools via a comparison of potential human health impacts associated with different alternatives to phthalates (DEHP) as plasticizer in vinyl flooring over its life cycle. We will also shortly look at an advanced tool presently developed for modelling both chemicals mass balance and energy balance, and how it can inform building and ventilation design and strategies. We finally discuss how this works, and provide a scientific basis for the international management of chemical in products in a life cycle perspective, in the frame of the UN environment Global Chemical Outlook II. Event: Creating homes that are better for you: the Healthy category Date: July 31, 2022 Time: 11:00am Address: https://www.gbca.org.au/education/videos/modules/283/creating-homes-that-are-better-for-you-the-healthy-category/ URL: https://www.gbca.org.au/education/videos/modules/283/creating-homes-that-are-better-for-you-the-healthy-category/ Details: The Green Star Homes Standard aims to create healthy, resilient and net zero energy homes for all Australians. What does it mean to create a healthy home and what are the requirements of the Standard to help demonstrate this? As recent events have shown, the impact our homes have on us physically is significant. We spend 90% of our time indoors with two thirds of this being at home. Our homes, and where they are located, influences every aspect of our lives. There is an increasing body of work establishing the links between housing and an individual’s health and wellbeing. Higher use of air conditioning, poor ventilation and issues such as mould can negatively impact a person’s health. Please join us for this webinar, where we will take a deep dive into the Healthy category of the Green Star Homes Standard, where these issues and more are addressed. As well as gaining a deeper understanding of the requirements of the Standard, you will also hear from three speakers who will discuss the importance of a healthy home and how they are working to achieve this.
