Hungary Green Building Council progresses to Established Member of WorldGBC

The World Green Building Council is pleased to announce that Hungary Green Building Council (HuGBC) has progressed to Established GBC status within the WorldGBC membership tier. A member of WorldGBC’s Europe Regional Network, HuGBC’s status progression comes in light of its continued efforts to demonstrate exceptional leadership within the building and construction industry, while growing and educating the market in Hungary, and acting as the primary source of information and collective action on sustainable building in the country.

Zsombor Barta, President, Hungary Green Building Council said: “The last 10 years has been an exciting journey for us, as the Hungary Green Building Council developed from an expert forum to a truly mature organisation, which includes the wide range of different stakeholders within the green building sector.

We are proud to have achieved the established membership status within the World Green Building Council as we celebrate our 10th birthday in 2019, and are joyfully looking forward to fruitful collaborations on national and international level. We are thankful to our former HuGBC presidents, board members, HuGBC membership and our mentor GBC, the Hong Kong Green Building Council, who all have provided ongoing support for our aspirations to become an Established WorldGBC Member. We are looking forward to a greener future, where sustainability aspirations counts.”

Henrietta Budai, Secretary General, Hungary Green Building Council said: “During the last few years, we got several opportunities as Emerging Member from the Europe Regional Network of the World Green Building Council to support not only the national but the international green movement. Now, as an Established WorldGBC Member, we can undertake a deeper commitment to lead the transformation towards a more sustainable built environment nationwide and also in the region.”

Cristina Gamboa, CEO, World Green Building Council said: “I am delighted to welcome Hungary GBC to the leaders’ league of GBCs globally. Their attainment of WorldGBC’s highest member status is due to their dedication to growing a strong local market for sustainable buildings and a powerful member network. They send an inspiring message to all global markets who are on this journey.”

In 2019, HuGBC celebrates its tenth anniversary since it formed as an organisation in 2009 with the purpose of supporting and later leading the process to spread an environmentally conscious and economically profitable construction practice in Hungary through professional and social co-operations, by promoting the establishment of necessary market, educational and legislative conditions.

In the video below, From Green Certifications to Future-Proof Cities, HuGBC’s former and current presidents outlines the Council’s progress in achieving the above vision and what tasks are expected in the coming years.
