Kenya Green Building Society rejoins WorldGBC as Established GBC

The Kenya Green Building Society (Kenya GBS) has rejoined the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) as an Established Green Building Council (GBC), the top tier of membership.

Previously an Emerging GBC, the second tier of WorldGBC membership, Kenya GBS has now progressed in its green building journey to become an Established GBC.

This has been achieved in light of its continued efforts to demonstrate exceptional leadership within the building and construction industry, whilst growing and educating Kenya’s market, and acting as the primary source of information and collective action on sustainable building in the country.

WorldGBC defines an Established GBC as a fully developed and operational organisation that is running impactful sustainable building programmes of work – delivering change on a national level, and embracing best practice governance, accountability and transparency.

John Kabuye Kalungi, CEO of Kenya Green Building Society said:

“It is an exciting moment for Kenya GBS team and the green building agenda in Kenya for Kenya GBS to ascend to the World GBC Established member status. We are extremely proud to have our invested time, hard work, dedication and commitment recognized through this achievement.

As a GBC re-energized by this status, we intend to intensify our engagement and reach in Kenya and beyond through the Africa Regional Network, to strengthen our resolve and impact which will ensure that the future of Africa’s built environment will be characterized by Net Zero green buildings, sustainable and healthy places for all, everywhere!”

Dominika Czerwinska, Engagement & Networks Director, WorldGBC said:

“I am delighted to welcome Kenya GBS to the leaders’ league of GBCs globally. Their attainment of WorldGBC’s highest member status signifies their excellent work in growing a strong local market for sustainable buildings and a powerful member network. Kenya GBS are our second Established Green Building Council in the Africa region leading the transformation of the built environment to make it healthier and more sustainable. Their hard work and dedication will help us reach our goal of sustainable buildings for everyone, everywhere.

The Kenya GBS is an independent, non-profit, non-political, member-based organisation formed to lead the transformation of the built environment in Kenya toward environmentally sustainable buildings; promoting a healthy and efficient built environment.

Their mission is to advocate, educate and certify green buildings in Kenya in order to achieve an environmentally, socially and economically progressive built environment.
