The Korea Green Building Council (Korea GBC) has rejoined the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) as an Established Green Building Council (GBC), the top tier of membership.
Previously an Emerging GBC, the second tier of WorldGBC membership, Korea GBC has now progressed in its green building journey to become an Established GBC. This has been achieved in light of its continued efforts to demonstrate exceptional leadership within the building and construction industry, while growing and educating the South Korean market, and acting as the primary source of information and collective action on sustainable building in the country.
WorldGBC defines an Established GBC as a fully developed and operational organisation that is running impactful green building programmes of work – delivering change on a national level, and embracing best practice governance, accountability and transparency.
YongShik Kim, 12th Chairman of Korea GBC said: “We’re delighted to rejoin the WorldGBC membership network as an Established GBC. This progression is validation of the hard work our team have put in to advancing the green building movement in Korea. Now, as an Established WorldGBC Member, we can undertake a deeper commitment to lead the transformation towards a more sustainable built environment nationwide, and also in the wider Asia Pacific region.”
Dominika Czerwinska, Membership and Regional Networks Director, WorldGBC said: “I am delighted to welcome Korea GBC to the leaders’ league of GBCs globally. Their attainment of WorldGBC’s highest member status signifies their excellent work in growing a strong local market for sustainable buildings and a powerful member network. We now have a total of 11 Established Green Building Councils in the Asia Pacific region leading the transformation of the built environment to make it healthier and more sustainable. Their hard work and dedication will help us reach our goal of green buildings for everyone, everywhere.”
Formed in April 2000, Korea GBC is an association made up of industry, universities, national and research institutes and other key stakeholders. This year, Korea GBC is celebrating its 20th anniversary and has begun working on eco-friendly building research and certification for the first time in Korea.
Korea GBC rejoins WorldGBC’s Asia Pacific Regional Network of 15 Green Building Councils.
