The World Green Building Council has been appointed to the EU’s new Sustainable Finance advisory body.
The European Commission announced today that WorldGBC will be among 50 cross-sector experts in its Platform for Sustainable Finance. The Platform will help implement the EU Taxonomy that aims to agree a common set of criteria for sustainable economic activities.
The EU Taxonomy is one of the essential building blocks for a European financial system that can accelerate a transition towards a sustainable economy, which are the key priorities of the Commission.
Last year, WorldGBC responded to the Taxonomy consultation with the European Regional Network of Green Building Councils and Partners, and was subsequently encouraged to see many of its proposals taken up in the recommendations of the Commission’s Technical Expert Group.
WorldGBC is committed to working with the other members of the Sustainable Finance Platform to ensure that the Taxonomy and other Platform outputs support the total decarbonisation of the built environment and unlock the power of the financial sector to help make sustainable buildings available for everyone everywhere.
