The COP31 Presidency’s “35 by 35 Global Electrification Pledge” aims to increase electricity’s share of global energy use. Expanding clean power alone will not be enough. Energy efficiency, deep retrofits and better building performance can reduce demand, lower operating costs and support climate goals.
Building on Canada’s National Electricity Strategy and the Belém Call for Action on Sustainable and Affordable Housing, this panel will explore how high-performance buildings provide a pathway to electrification. Drawing on experience in development, design and affordable housing, panelists will share practical lessons from new construction and large-scale retrofits. They will discuss how governments, investors, designers and housing providers can overcome barriers and scale solutions that improve affordability and quality of life.
