The Mongolian Green Building Council (MGBC) is a non-governmental, membership-based organization established in 2014 to promote sustainable development in Mongolia’s built environment. In August 2022, MGBC underwent significant restructuring— realigning its leadership, governance, and operations to reflect the principles and strategic direction of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC).
Today, MGBC brings together over 70 active members, including officials from the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, leaders from construction-related professional associations, private sector innovators, researchers, and financial institutions. Together, they work toward a greener, healthier, and more resilient built environment in Mongolia.
MGBC is the developer of Mongolia’s national green building rating system, BestGER — an acronym for Best Governance, Efficiency, and Resilience. This tool reflects national priorities while aligning with global standards, helping project teams evaluate and enhance the sustainability performance of buildings.
In addition to policy and rating system development, MGBC leads initiatives to reduce air and soil pollution by supporting the production of affordable green building materials, lowering the cost and duration of green housing construction, and promoting access to low-interest green loans. These efforts are designed to help more Mongolian residents shift from traditional housing to energy-efficient, environmentally responsible homes.
Together, we are committed to leading the sustainable transformation of Mongolia’s built environment — advancing toward buildings and communities that are healthier, more liveable, productive, resilient, and environmentally responsible.
