Jesús Salcedo Villanueva is the World Urban Forum coordinator, where he oversees the design, curation, and implementation of the second largest United Nations Conference and the premier world conference on sustainable urban development. He is on a MISSION to make the WORLD URBAN FORUM an OPEN and DIVERSE platform for transformative and positive change in CITIES and COMMUNITIES. Through it, he is eager to CONNECT with practitioners, thinkers, and leaders to bring inspiring stories and successes to WUF.

Jesús Salcedo Villanueva’s academic background is in urban management, and he has previously been in charge of the UN-Habitat Global Network for Sustainable Housing, as well as multiple sustainable development-related projects. Jesús is specialised in urban growth management strategies and community development projects. The further focus of his work is on housing policy, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and the New Urban Agenda.

Previously, Jesús has worked on specialised consultancies for government institutions in Oman, Italy, and Mexico; as well as for organisations including the Cities Alliance and G.I.Z. Additionally, Jesús is a trained architect and has built community development infrastructure projects and social housing in Mexico. One of his projects was selected to be represented at the Venice Biennale for Architecture in 2015 for its strong community development approach. He graduated with honours from both the Technische Universität Berlin and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
