World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) welcomes three new signatories to the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment (the Commitment): NDY, A Tetra Tech Company (NDY), Scape Australia Management Pty Ltd (Scape) and Hoare Lea LLP
LONDON – 9 am BST, 7 September 2023 – Today, WorldGBC announces two new signatories, NDY and Scape, to the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment. Hoare Lea has transitioned to the updated Commitment. These businesses are taking action to decarbonise their building portfolios and advocate for wider emissions reductions across their respective supply chains.
In July 2023, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a stark warning: the era of global boiling has arrived. Temperatures soared in July, making it the hottest month on record. This warning, combined with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s AR6 Synthesis Report, shows the need for urgent, substantial and credible action to deliver a sustainable future for global citizens. As the building and construction sector is the largest contributing sector to the climate crisis, all stakeholders must come together to deliver the transformative change needed to create decarbonised, equitable and resilient built environments.
Signatories commit to reducing all operational carbon emissions from assets under their direct control by 2030, as well as committing new developments and major renovations under their direct control to reduce embodied carbon emissions by 2030. Signatories are required to compensate any remaining upfront embodied carbon emissions as part of a whole lifecycle approach.
Signatories to the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment are advancing net zero by facilitating and accelerating market transformation, representing a leadership position within the buildings and construction sector by taking action further and faster to decarbonise the built environment.
Cristina Gamboa, CEO, World Green Building Council:
“I am pleased to welcome these sustainability leaders to WorldGBC’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment. The Commitment continues to showcase frontrunner action across the built environment from stakeholders delivering decarbonisation at scale. In turn, these actions prove the possible and send the necessary market demand signals to accelerate sector transformation.”
