The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) today announced the results of its 2026 Board of Directors elections, confirmed at its Annual General Meeting on 24 June. Three newly appointed Directors bring fresh expertise to the leadership team, strengthening the organisation’s capacity to advance the built environment’s role in climate action.

In addition to the Directors elected at the Annual General Meeting, Alicja Kuczera, CEO of the Polish Green Building Council, joins the WorldGBC Board of Directors in an ex officio capacity as Chair of the Members Steering Group (MSG), following her appointment by the Board at its 21 June meeting. This appointment strengthens the Board’s connection to the 80+ Green Building Councils (GBCs) across the globe, ensuring that the perspectives and priorities of the network are represented at Board level.
The new Directors join continuing Board members Habiba Al Mar’ashi, President, Arabia CSR Network and Co-Founder and Chairperson, Emirates Environmental Group; Paolo Bevilacqua, Group Head of Sustainability, Frasers Property Ltd; Elizabeth W. Chege, CEO and Co-founder, WEB Limited and Energy Efficiency and Cooling Specialist; Grace Kwok, Chairman and Executive Director, AEC Group and Chief Sustainability Strategist, AEC Capital Ltd; Luis Alejandro Mejia, Lead Advisory Officer, Sustainable Finance Advisory Practice, IDB Invest; and David Turk, Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University and former Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Energy.
Matthew Bell, CEO of Anthesis Group, continues as Chair of the Board of Directors, entering his second year leading the world’s largest network for sustainable buildings.
“This Board represents the breadth of expertise and the depth of commitment that the work of sustainable buildings genuinely requires. Across finance, policy, design, infrastructure and industry, we have leaders who understand not only what the built environment must achieve, but how to make it happen at scale, in real markets, across every region of the world. That is the leadership WorldGBC needs to ensure our network continues to drive progress, and that the communities, cities and economies that depend on better buildings see that ambition turned into action.”
During its 21 June 2026 meeting, the Board of Directors made the following appointments to the Members Steering Group and Corporate Advisory Board.
The Members Steering Group represents WorldGBC’s global network of Green Building Councils, translating member priorities into the organisation’s strategic direction. In a significant development for member-led governance, WorldGBC is formally embedding GBC network representation at Board level: from this term, the MSG Chair holds a seat on the WorldGBC Board of Directors, ensuring that the voice of the global GBC community shapes decisions at the highest level.

The Corporate Advisory Board brings together senior leaders from WorldGBC’s corporate membership to provide strategic direction and champion sustainable built environment solutions across industry.

On behalf of the network, WorldGBC would like to thank the following leaders who are stepping down.
